There's A 19th Century Log Cabin Going Up In Town

In a town where French Colonial vertical log houses prevail, there are very few that were built in the manner of the Anglo-American and German pioneer style of horizontal logs, such as seen in the lower level of the Delcommune House on LaHaye Street.
Now another pioneer horizontal log house will soon be completed at Sassafras Creek Originals on St. Mary's Road in Ste. Genevieve.
The 19th century cabin was German built on a farm in Perry County, where Kandye and her husband, Dale, live close-by. She passed it often, silently wishing that one day she would have a log house of her own. Sometimes wishes come true. This one did for her through a cascade of "miracles." It became a reality when a crew from Vermont (one being Kandye's son) arrived earlier in the month to disassemble that very log house and reassemble it beside Sassafras Creek Originals. It took them less than two weeks to finish the log shell.

Now once Kandye, Dale and crews complete the project, visitors will be able to experience the unique opportunity of renting the cabin through AirB&B for their stay in Ste. Genevieve. This is a town filled with many B&Bs but I know of no other that will give you such a pioneer experience. Okay. So it WILL have air conditioning and heat, a bathroom, a small kitchen area with microwave and refrigerator, a Smart TV, and enough beds to sleep at least six or more. . .but that's my idea of roughing it! LOL
A little of the log cabin fever rubbed off on me, too. I was so inspired as I watched Kandye's cabin go up, that I created a DIY Log House Christmas ornament that will be featured in the Winter Issue of COUNTRY RUSTIC magazine. Crafted of cinnamon stick logs and an embellished cardboard roof, I think it will be a fitting tribute to the newest, old log house in Ste. Gen. But, just like it's inspiration, I still have some additions to make. . .I forgot the porch and it needs more greenery. . .a good start, though. . .
Updates of Kandye's19th century German built log cabin project will appear in future posts. . .
As for the Log House ornament, it will be a secret for a while. . .
My editor insists. . .(grin)
